📺 Worked example

How much electricity does a television use?

Start with a transparent example, then replace the assumptions with your own wattage, operating time and electricity price.

0.40 kWhper day of use
2.40 €per month at 0.20 €/kWh

Worked example

100 W × 4 h/day × 100 % load factor × 30 days.

12.00 kWh/month · 28.80 €/year

This is an energy-only estimate. Your bill can also include standing charges, taxes and other household consumption.

Calculate with my data →

Typical reference range

Use the label, manual or manufacturer data for your exact model whenever possible.

Type or situationIndicative reference
Small efficient TV30–70 W
Typical 50–55 inch TV70–140 W
Large / very bright TV120–250+ W

What changes the result?

Rated watts are only one part of the calculation.

Formula

Watts to kWh

kWh = (W ÷ 1,000) × hours × load factor. Multiply kWh by your electricity price to estimate energy cost.

Real use

Measure when possible

Thermostats, compressors, inverter control and programmes can make real consumption lower or higher than a simple maximum-power estimate.

Reduce waste

Practical checks

  • Brightness and HDR use can change power draw.
  • Disable unnecessary high-brightness shop modes.
  • Standby is usually small but can be measured over several days.
