Paint price: how to compare cost, coverage and quality
Compare paint by finished-area cost, coverage, number of coats, primer needs and room requirements instead of judging value from tin price or price per litre alone.

Turn the tin price into a useful comparison
Estimate the litres needed from surface area, coats and stated coverage. Divide the product cost by the finished area. This gives a better comparison than looking only at the shelf price.
Coverage can change the real cost
Absorbent walls, major repairs and strong colour changes can need primer or additional coats. A more expensive paint may still cost less overall if it reliably avoids an extra full coat.
Use a simple per-coat example
Paint A at €4/L covering 8 m²/L and paint B at €6/L covering 12 m²/L both have a theoretical product cost of €0.50 per m² per coat. From there, compare washability, finish, real hiding power and suitability for the room.
Quality means suitability, not simply price
Scrub resistance, sheen, substrate compatibility, drying conditions and ease of application can matter more than branding. Compare products with the same intended use and read the technical data sheet.

Before buying materials or carrying out the work, review the assumptions, product data and limits that apply to your real situation.
